Reepham & Salle v Sheringham
Sunday 17th July
Words by Adam Pryke
Match Lost (Reepham & Salle 247, Sheringham 281)
Amazingly we got a game in on Sunday after the unrelenting rain on Saturday, but the conditions offered valuable experience for an under 13 side getting to grips with match play. Reepham batted first and approached the damp conditions and a ball not coming onto the bat with caution, showing signs of good footwork and patience. Sheringham bowled straight and on target making the task even harder. Mitchell, Taylor and Withers being the best of the bowling initially containing Reepham well.
Some fine demonstrations of the pull shot from Sam Tomlinson (18) and some Calypso style straight hitting from Ali Hughes (20) put Reepham in the game closing on 277 for the loss of 6 wickets - 247 Final score.
Sheringham batted well from the start with Taylor, Moy (21), Mitchell (13) and Booth (13) taking advantage of the bad balls. Reepham again took a while to get into a bowling stride and on balance gave away too many extras (39). They did take 5 wickets on the plus side and showed good discipline in the field. Sheringham finished on 306 for the loss of 5 wickets – 281 Final Score.
Forget the result this was valuable experience for both sides and a great lesson in how conditions can impact play and the result. It’s encouraging to see the skills and drills practiced being put into practice.

Reepham & Salle U13s - Cool, calm and clear.
|
RSCC won the toss and elected to bowl showing a good degree of improvement in game knowledge and general fielding skills from the first match. Good straight bowling was well supported by fielders alert n playing on the front foot.( except for will p unluckily kicking the ball 30 ft over the boundary)Special mention to skipper ali hughes 2 for 16, louis johnson 1 for 13, n sam crafer who bowled fast n dangerously 1 for 8. With a well coached acle finishing on 265 it was game on. A much calmer and more confident Will p opened the batting with exciting alround prospect george angier, the pair getting the team away to a steady start. They were followed by will graver n louis who smashed a huge boundary back over the bowlers head n kept the innings heading in the right direction, neither losing a wicket. Then came olly n wk batsman Aaron who ran well as a pair between the wickets. With about 25 runs needed from the last pair Ali n sam c it looked likely to be a close finish and it couldn't have been any tighter. Both Ali n sam hit some excellent cricket shots, SAMs particularly savage blows over midwicket giving reepham a chance of victory. Unfortunately in their quest for quick runs they also lost 4 wickets but with 1 ball left the reepham boys found themselves ahead, parents, coaches n pet dogs were exploding with excitement but poor sam was left crestfallen after unluckily being bowled off his pads from a snorter of a delivery from the acle captain leaving the visitors victorious.
Well played acle, better luck next time RSCC.
Man of the match: louis Johnson for his batting, bowling n fielding.
Thought for the day = let's back ourselves to win, everytime but if we are to be beaten let's be beaten by a better opponent rather than by ourselves. Stay cool, calm n clear.

Reepham & Salle v Halvergate

Match Won (Reepham & Salle 262, Halvergate 248)
Halvergate batted first n were restricted to a respectable 248 from there 16 overs after an excellent first performance in the field from the reepham boys including some good straight bowling notably from Oliver boldero, theo Durban n Sam tomlinson which was well supported with good out fielding (most of the time except the odd lapse in concentration which we put down to nerves). Reepham ended up with a winning score of 262 after an exciting last couple of overs when wickets were lost n runs scored. (well done to louis n will for holding their nerve, just) the 2 best partnerships were olly boldero n ally Hughes with some fine shots and big hitting and an excellent effort between Sam tomlinson n will graver who did the best calling, running n sliding of bats into the crease from anyone on either side. A special mention to ally Hughes for captaining the team with calmness n great sportsmanship and to man of the match Aaron bird who kept wicket brilliantly for the first time ever having had very little training.
Well done everyone a great performance.
Thanks to halvergate too who were very friendly and well organized.
Cheers joe hollis (coach)

Reepham & Salle U11/13 v Sheringham
Sunday 11th July 2010
Words by Joe Hollis
What a beautiful day for this team's first ever match, the sun was shining and there was great excitement in the air as Sheringham won the toss and decided to bat first. The Reepham & Salle boys were extremely nervous but soon settled after George Angier took an early wicket, with the help of a smart catch from Lee Johnson at square leg. This was soon followed by another wicket, when Sam Tomlinson bowled the other Sheringham opener for 3. With concentration good in the field, the Reepham boys really started to look like a team. However after Reepham's early success they began to find themselves on the back foot after an exceptional third wicket partnership of over 50 and it started to look like the Reepham & Salle boys would be chasing down a very large score until Ben Ferenczy bowled T. Bain for 49 (the highest scorer of the match), quickly followed by his partner being bowled by Louis Johnson. With the troops being lead brilliantly for the first time by Captain Alistair Hughes, Reepham then resumed good control in the field including a brilliant run out from Ben Davis and Ollie Boldero getting himself a wicket with the help of a superb catch at mid-wicket from the Captain. Sheringham's innings finished on 147.
It was great to see so many parents and helpers at the ground and we all enjoyed tea and squash between the innings, before it was Reepham's turn to bat.
The coach decided to let the Captain have the added responsibility of choosing his batting order and Ali being a quick learner, opened with Ollie and himself! Unfortunately Ollie went early, stumped, although he insisted the wicket keeper didn't have control of the ball and he shouldn't have been given out as he was starting to enjoy himself. This was followed by the most significant partnership for the Reepham team between Ali Hughes and Lee Johnson. Lee eventually going for 20 and Ali later retiring 22 not out. Despite a contribution from the rest of the team, who all enjoyed a bat, Sheringham managed to take control half way through the Reepham innings with the help of a couple of experienced fast bowlers. Reepham's innings finishing on 102.
All in all the match was a great experience for the team who learnt so much and gained invaluable experience that will stand them in good stead in the future.
Here is looking forward to the 2011 Season and these guys being involved in lots more matches.

Reepham & Salle U13 v Horsford U13
Sunday 29th June 2008
Words by Paul Harwood
MAGNIFICENT VICTORY
RSCC U13s 109 for 9 from their 25 overs
S. Harwood 16, A Kennedy 13
Horsford U13s 92 All out from 23.3 overs
J. Fletcher 2-2, T. Harris 2-14, M. Smith 2-15
RSCC's fledgling U13 side began their 2008 campaign with a home friendly fixture against a strong Horsford team. This was Reepham U13s first ever game and they were out to prove that they could compete against a Norfolk Alliance League outfit.
Reepham's skipper, Simon Harwood won the toss and opened the batting with partner Harry Leggoe. The openers batted sensibly to see off the Horsford opening bowlers and scored steadily until Leggo was bowled by an excellent ball from the Horsford left arm spinner, George Aldridge. Alex Kennedy then came in at number 3 and carried on the steady pace and played really well for his 13 runs. Harwood, playing some nice shots, was out next and was Reepham's top scorer with 16.
However, against tidy Horsford bowling, the top 3 had laid a solid foundation which allowed the RSCC middle order to `expressive themselves.' Kennedy, anchoring one end, watched as Ollie Able, Matt Smith (who played the shot of the day - a glorious on drive for 4), George Wright and Jordan King found the boundary as they all made useful contributions in Reepham's final total of 109 for 9 from their 25 overs.
Reepham's opening bowlers were soon into their stride and concentrated on their line and length. Matt Smith produced a great ball to clean bowl the dangerous Jordy Buxton for 1. Whist Alex Kennedy tied down one end, Simon Harwood then caught a sharp return catch to remove the other Horsford opener, the stylish Alec Harvey who had scored 3. Losing both of their openers, and good bowling backed up by tight fielding, Horsford soon found themselves under some pressure and wickets began to fall steadily.
Horsford's lively Rob Clarke was then run out by some excellent fielding by Ollie Able. However, some loose bowling began to creep in and the total slowly began to rise. Horsford's Ollie Inwoods was particularly severe on anything short. However, after top scoring with an excellent 25, he was well bowled by the miserly Leggoe.
It was suddenly becoming apparent that an upset could be on the cards. This was reinforced when James Fletcher came on and bowled a double wicket maiden with his first over. He finished his spell with figures of 2 overs, 2 wickets for 2 runs. Tom Harris was equably impressive by taking a wicket with his first ball and ended up with figures of 3 overs, 2 wickets for 14 runs. Joe Tozer also weighed in with a wicket thanks to a smart stumping by keeper, Jordan King. Matt Smith returned to take his 2nd wicket and wrapped up the Horsford innings for 92 runs.
By playing as a solid unit, the RSCC boys served up a truly memorable victory against a very good Horsford team. Watched by a large crowd, the match was played in an outstanding spirit by both sides.
I would also like to extend my personal thanks to the Horsford management; Lester Pummell, Nigel Clarke and Dave Aldridge whom made this day so enjoyable for everybody. We are all looking forward to the return match at Horsford.

Reepham & Salle U11 v Horsford U11
Sunday 10th June 2007
Words by Paul Harwood
This day was a very special occasion for RSCC as it saw our first ever junior match played at the ground. The Sunday morning may have started off damp and muggy but it didn't seem to worry either team and the colts were eager join in battle.
The Reepham and Salle skipper, Jack Parker, won the toss and, without a moments hesitation, stuck the opposition in. He had obviously decided his pace attack could make use of the early damp and overcast conditions to extract some extra bounce and swing to worry the Horsford openers.
However, it was the Horsford batting which was soon firing on all cylinders as the Reepham & Salle bowlers found the wet ball hard to control. Wides and No balls kept the scoreboard ticking along. The bowlers stuck valiantly to their task against the more experienced opposition and Horsford posted a hefty 326 from their allotted 20 overs. By way of explanation for those new to U11 cricket, each team starts with 200 runs and loses 5 runs every time they lose a wicket. No Balls and Wides count as 2 runs but the extra deliveries are not bowled.
When Reepham and Salle came to bat they found the seasoned Horsford bowlers were quickly into their stride and finding a good line and length. Runs off the bat were proving hard to come by and the tight and disciplined bowling ensured wickets fell steadily. From their 20 overs, Reepham & Salle's score eventually amounted to 157 runs.
Against a vastly more practiced side, Reepham & Salle gave an excellent account of themselves and the experienced gained will prove invaluable for future matches.
The game was played in a competitive and very friendly spirit and Joe and myself would like to extend our thanks to the Horsford coaches, Lester and Dave and to the Horsford Colts for making this historic day a hugely memorable and enjoyable one.

Reepham & Salle U13 v Gt. Witchingham U13
Sunday 6th July 2008
Words by Paul Harwood
REEPHAM LOSE IN CLOSE CONTEST
Gt. Wtchingham U13s 121 for 4 (25 overs)
H. Leggoe 1-9
RSCC U13s 123 for 7 (25 overs)
S. Harwood 20no
After a win the previous week, the RSCC U13s were in a confident mood against Gt Witchingham on a lovely Sunday morning.
Gt Witchingham won the toss and chose to bat. Gt Witchingham line up scored steadily with their manager rotating the batting to give all of the team a go. The home team found that these batsmen were more reluctant to give away their wickets and, helped by a very generous gift of 37 extras, Gt Witchingham posted 121 runs for 4 wickets from their 25 overs.
Some notable bowling from R&SCC included; Harry Leggoe 3 overs 1-9, Tom Harris, whose 2 overs cost just 2 runs (with no extras), Alex Kennedy 2 overs, 0-7
Reepham & Salle's openers, Simon Harwood (20 n.o) and Harry Leggoe (15 n.o) then laid a steady foundation for the run chase before being rotated. Most of the other batsmen played themselves in before either missing straight ones or being run out. Aided by some early extras, R&SCC's score crept up before Gt Witchingham's Matty Hale came on and bowled a very much tighter line and length. Wickets fell steadily and, as the overs began to run out, Simon Harwood, who had previously been retired by the manager, was sent back in to try and score the necessary runs. However, time ran out with Reepham and Salle only 8 runs short.
Thanks go to Graham Richardson for bringing over a good side for a game that was played in a competitive and sporting fashion by both teams.

Drayton U13 vReepham & Salle U13
Wednesday 9th July 2008
Words by Paul Harwood
RAIN WINS!
A look at the weather records for Wednesday 09 July 08 will reveal that heavy rain fell during the evening and night in the Norwich area. Yours truly was at the Salle ground to turn around anyone foolish enough to think that Cricket practice could be played in the pouring rain. Joe was responsible for looking after the U13s at Drayton.
Reepham had sent every available U13 as, this being their first season, Drayton were light on numbers. So both teams were comprised of nearly all of RSCC boys!
Fully expecting Simon to return home soon, I was quite astonished when I received a phone call at 6.30pm by the missus who explained that the game was actually in full flow (every pun intended) despite heavy, really heavy, rain.
Details of the game are a bit sketchy though as it could, apparently, only be partially viewed through the passes of windscreen wipers on a high speed setting. My usual match interrogation of Simon also revealed little information as we peeled off his soaking Cricket whites;
"Did you win?" I asked. "Don't know," came the reply.
"Did you score any runs?" "Don't know.'
"Did you take any wickets?" "Don't know."
"Did anyone score any runs?" "Don't know."
"But at least Joe shared the experience by getting soaked as well though," I said with a hint of glee. "No, he was under a bloody great umbrella!"
The pitch was, by all accounts, badly cut up with even the sawdust being churned into the mud. Had he been present with the U13s, I'm sure our President, Jim, would have been reminded of his time spent at the Somme! Perhaps the rematch will be arranged for next February! At least we will be better prepared with more appropriate kit - football boots.
By all accounts though, the boys had a great time and, as an added bonus, we even managed to get Simon into the shower without his usual whinging!
Man of the Match: Joe Hollis for astute use of an umbrella
